COVID-19 PCR

COVD-19 PCR:

RT-PCR testing for Covid-19 has become a routine test that we run on daily basis. The PCR technique used is a molecular biology method where nucleic acid (RNA in the case of Covid-19) is extracted from the collected biological samples (naso-pharyngeal, oro-pharyngeal samples or sputum) in a very safe environment and mixed with enzymes, probes and primers (mixture called Master Mix) then run inside a thermocycler (machine controlling the temperature at different cycles) during two hours. The probes used are specific for the Covid-19 genome because they target well-defined genes. In our protocol, we decided to test three specific genes (N, E and RdRp) simultaneously to improve the assay specificity and sensitivity.

In presence of the viral genome, the RNA is transformed into DNA as a first step and then amplified to finally obtain billions of copies in just a couple of hours. These copies are detected and interpreted accordingly.

All Covid-19 results, positive and negative, are reported to the Ministry of Public Health in order to maintain a national track and evidence of the testing and detection rate in the country.

The COVID-19 PCR is done on daily basis from 7am till 7pm outside the hospital in the visitors parking. After 7 pm, only Rapid test is done in the Emergency Room.

You can choose either Walk -Thru or Drive - Thru or Home service

Rapid PCR

Rapid PCR tests are done 24/7. Samplins is done at the kiosks from 7 am till 7 pm, the whole week

After 7 pm, go to the ER for sampling

Appointment is mandatory for groups.

Conventional PCR

Unless informed otherwise, all samples collected before 11:00a.m. will have their results released on the same day at night.

All samples collected after 11:00 a.m. will have their results released next day.

You can check all the results by visiting our website: haykelhospital.com. Clink on "Test Results Information Bank". fill the case number and medical file to get the results.

Combo PCR

COVID-19 and influenza viruses share common symptoms that are hard to differentiate solely depending on clinical signs. Therefore, a novel diagnostic tool is available now at Haykel hospital which combines simultaneously COVID-19, influenza A and B using a rapid PCR technique releasing results in only 20 minutes after sample collection
